BE PATIENT WITH YOUR PROGRESSION

For some reason, the desire to create consumes me. Of everything that I am: a traveler, a cook, a hustler, a husband-to-be, a natural wine drinker, a marketer, I am always a creator first.

You, too, probably have something that makes you feel the most alive. If you have a day job and manage to make time for your passions, I think you're doing the right thing. It's one thing to uncover your passion but it's another thing to actually put the work in and make time for it. I'm sure there are many people who envy your efforts.

The challenge I find in being employed at a job that you're not passionate about is that you lose your peak ability. The time you're able to make for your passions is often garbage time because your energy is at a lower level from dealing with your 9-5. Time is valuable and you have to trade in purposeful hours of sitting at your desk, daydreaming and feeling empty for financial security and benefits.

To prove our worth, we are always out to please others. We drain ourselves of brainpower and absorb the requests from people. Then we depend on our brilliant ideas and work ethic to validate our sense of purpose.  Feeling rejuvenated and uplifted by your work is critical to the creative self but you shouldn't have to give up a part of yourself in exchange.

No matter who you are, you will always have to put up with a lot of bullshit and do things you don't want to do to get ahead. That's just part of your progression. The situations you don't like are problems that you must solve. Once you stop viewing these moments as a detrimental exchange and start viewing them as part of a growth process, life becomes more peaceful.

I want to be clear though. I'm not saying that you should be passive and wait for things to turnaround in your life. What I'm saying is stop being so critical of the bad things that happen because if those bad things teach you a lesson or help you grow, they aren't so bad after all. Everything is temporary; that goes for both the good and the bad. Good things take time so as long as your moving in the right direction, you will hit a breakthrough. Maybe it's tomorrow or maybe it's 10 years from now. Whenever it is you, it will be the perfect time for you to experience it.
