WHERE TO EAT IN NYC WHEN YOU'RE BROKE

A few years ago an agency I worked at was abruptly shut down and everyone lost their jobs. This was my first job out of college so I never experienced anything like this before in my life. Anxiety hit me like a stack of nickels and without much money saved up and tons of expenses, I knew I was going to be dead broke soon unless I found another job. During this time survival mode kicked in and I had to start being more cautious with how I spent money. I spent my unemployed summer days walking the streets of New York and to my surprise, I found a lot of places where could enjoy good food for cheap and have my spirits brought up. These are the places that helped me get by during a tough time.

RUDY'S:

FREE HOT DOG W/ EACH $3 PINT OF BEER

Rudy's has been a NYC staple since 1933. It's a small dive bar with no frills. Just free hot dogs with a good and even cheaper beer selection. I'm not a big hot dog guy but these dogs are good. Better than any New York city cart in my opinion.

ALLIGATOR LOUNGE: FREE PIZZA W/ PURCHASE OF DRINK

Every day from open to close, Alligator Lounge is serving up free pies in a lively atmosphere. Try your luck at skee ball, sports trivia, pool leagues and you can sing karaoke if you're into that.

2 BROS. PIZZA:

$1 Cheese slice

Most New Yorkers know 2 Bros Pizza for the simple fact that it's everywhere and they have huge signs that proudly share their $1 pizza slice offer.
